LOCATION: Cornellá Road,15. Barcelona

DATE: February 1993

SPONSOR: CONGREGACIÓN “HIJAS DEL BUEN SALVADOR DE CAÉN”

BUILDER: EDICOSA

BUDGET: 534.255,16 €

BUILT SURFACE: 1.011,37 m2

The building in question contains a set of nine units assigned to the Centro de Educación Infantil (Early Childhood Education Centre) in accordance with the provisions of Decree 1004 of November 1991 relating to the two educational streams being taught at the centre.

The positioning of the building within the site took into account both functional criteria (proximity to the main building and other facilities, etc) and the high landscape values.

The functional layout of the building is spread across two floors, including three ground floor classrooms and other ancillary facilities required by law: a lobby, dining room, kitchen, multipurpose room, office and teachers´ room. The upper floor includes a total of six classrooms connected by a long corridor illuminated by natural light along one side. The floors are reached by a central staircase of two flights, opening laterally in to the garden area next to the entrance to the existing main hall, with a second external single-flight staircase, located on the end opposite to the main entrance.

The classrooms, each with an area of 51 m2 and a capacity for 25 students, are located on the south-west side of the building to ensure good exposure to sunlight; the corresponding toilets for each unit are also situated in the south-west section of the building, with direct access from the inside of each classroom, with the aim of ensuring maximum light and ventilation.

A portico structure is proposed in the entryway between the boiler room and the main entrance in order to increase its importance.

The playground has been situated just outside the classrooms, considered the best location, providing an area covered by a pergola in front of the dining area, thereby protecting it from an excessive amount of sunshine.
